Vice President of Information Technology, Fifth Street Gaming

With more than twenty years in Information Technology, Mark employs a unique blend of technical and interpersonal skills to bridge the gap between technology and the business. Mark’s technical experience includes network design, installation, and administration for both large and small companies. As a senior member of the Information Technology staff at Arizona State University, Mark held many positions including Information Technology Architecture Analyst, and Manager of the Network Services team, which was comprised of senior level engineers and administrators responsible for all voice and data services on the University’s west valley campus. Mark began his IT career as an independent consultant to small and mid-size business, gaining a unique perspective on the needs and priorities of business owners and managers. His experience as a business owner and senior manager together with his extensive experience with a wide range of solutions allows him to understand and address operational and technical needs. Mark has the expertise to identify technology solutions to business problems, and to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical users and stakeholders. The benefit to the business has been Mark’s ability to deliver highly effective, state of the art solutions that provide value and help the business achieve its strategic goals.

Member of the core team responsible for the University-wide deployment of Windows 2000 at Arizona State University. This team managed the work of literally hundreds of others across the university on scores of smaller teams to deploy Active Directory across multiple campuses and other university sites in Arizona. The team was recognized both by the president of the university and by the Governor of Arizona for its effective teamwork and innovation.

At Arizona State University, managed a team of professionals responsible for a 30-server, 1500 node network, including 24X7 monitoring, disaster planning and recovery and implementation of new technology and services. Direct responsibility for university-wide Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning.

Member of the team at a large utility responsible for the migration of multiple technologies across the enterprise simultaneously. This involved upgrading workstations, operating system migration and training, and token-ring to Ethernet conversion. The project was accomplished on time, with a minimum of downtime for users.

Successfully implemented standards-based policies and procedures in organizations from 20 users to more than 5,000 users.

Served as the Director of IT at a Las Vegas strip hotel/casino, driving upgrades of AS/400 and Windows servers, 1100 slot machine management system, point-of-sale system, casino cage and credit systems, and the underlying network infrastructure including eliminating single points of failure. Implemented network monitoring and help-desk solutions to allow management of this large, 24X7 environment with limited staffing. Managed multiple vendor and partner relationships to ensure value and successful completion of multiple projects.

Director of Information Technology at Ameristar Casino in Blackhawk, Colorado responsible for the daily IT operation as well as successful leadership of the project to complete a new, Four-Star resort style hotel property.
